The Legend

The Dragon's Heart is a massive ruby that contains godly powers, the size of a human head. Long ago, it was said that it's original owner was a huge red dragon that reigned terror over the lands. Killing as he wished, his home was the fiery mountain known as Torai Volcano. Every night on the full moon, he demanded sacrifices and offerings. Each village was to bring one human, who carried whatever treasure they could gather up for him. If anyone dared to defy the monster, he would fly to their town and set it ablaze, murdering everyone in sight. The greedy dragon called himself a king, always keeping the jewel close to him, on a giant gold chain necklace.

Though one town, resting near the center of Nharria, became fed up with the beast, and decided to do something about him. So as a sacrifice, they sent their strongest warrior to go and kill the dragon. He got close to the dragon, waited until the moment where it was just about to kill him, and leaped with his sword held high. Furious, the dragon attacked back, and killed him. So that night, he took off towards the village that had sent the man, and did as he promised: set them all on fire. Only one person escaped alive, and ran: a simple slave that worked for a small family. She fled into the woods and hid there, where the dragon could not find her. Forgetting about the full moon offerings, he swore to go after the women until he killed her himself.

Fate bound them, and one day, they faced each other. The woman had become a thief, and trained herself to fight with a lightweight sword and dagger. She was ready for him, so they fought. Sword clashed against his diamond-hard claws and fangs. Drenched in sweat and blood from the heat of his flames, and wounds he inflicted, the lady fell to her knees. Laughing at her, the dragon approached, looming over her weary body. He opened his mouth to summon the flames from his belly, but she suddenly lunged, using up the last bit of energy she could muster. Almost all of her body was inside the dragon's mouth as she stabbed upwards with her blade. The beast was taken by surprise, and immediately clamped his jaws shut. It was too late for him, though. She had stuck the weapon into the back of the roof of his mouth, reaching so far up that it stabbed through his brain. The woman had lost an arm, though managed to get herself out. She saw the dragon decrease to half his original size as he died, a waterfall of blood flowing steadily out of his mouth.

She bound her left, armless shoulder with her shirt, and ran for a whole day straight. She reached a village, collapsed and was taken in. She told them of the dragon's death, and the news spread like wildfire throughout the land. The next day she died, though her spirit lived on. Nobody knows where the battle took place, and it is said to have been so long ago that the body might even be buried deep beneath the earth. The ruby, containing the power of every element, was still clutched close to the dragon's chest with a clawed hand, as if he wanted to bring it with him to the next life. Some believe the legend is not true, and some search the entire land of Reiretrui for it. It's location unknown, the tale told less as the years went by. The Dragon's Heart has been forgotten.
